GOV.UK Verify is a method of proving who you are online when accessing some government services.

The online verification service has been used to access popular HMRC online services like the personal tax account and self assessment for submitting online tax returns.

HMRC have confirmed from 1st April 2022 you will not be able to use GOV.UK to access their services online.

What do I use instead of GOV.UK Verify to access my Personal Tax Account?

If you have been used to using GOV.UK Verify to access your HMRC online services like the personal tax account you should be able to login without an issue by using your government gateway login details.

What services still use GOV.UK Verify?

GOV.UK Verify is still a valuable tool in online ID verification and a number of services still use the service.

Some agencies and departments use GOV.UK Verify for identity checks on individuals in certain professions or who they work with. These services include total Reward Statement (NHS Business Services Authority) and Social Work England and are not available to the public.

How do I sign up to GOV.UK Verify?

To sign up for GOV.UK Verify you need to start using one of the government services that support the verification process.

When you have signed up for a valid service you will need to then verify your identity with Digidentity. You will then be prompted to set up an ID account with an indentity provider and then you can use GOV.UK Verify with any eligible government service.
