As tax experts, we recommend an organised approach to things like filing your self assessment tax return. We also understand the pressure of being self employed that leads people to be doing tasks like this during the festive season.
According to HMRC, 6,033 self assessment tax returns were filed on Christmas Eve and 2,590 on Christmas day. And despite the temptation of the delectable, all-day buffet, 7,655 submitted their tax return on Boxing Day. We don’t think this is advisable. You still have time to meet the 31st January deadline and have Christmas Day off.
Hopefully your gifts are already wrapped and under the tree, kitchen cupboards are bursting with food “that’s for Christmas” and your children are relatively germ free. Remember that staff well-being includes you, so set limits to any time you plan to work over Christmas and stick to them.
