The Metropolitan Police force is one of the biggest and after helping many of it’s troops we thought it would be good to clarify what they can and cannot claim for.
Police Federation fees are tax deductible but not for members of the Metropolitan Police force.
This is because there’s an arrangement whereby subscriptions are taken at source. This means it’s taken from your salary with no tax is deducted, so tax relief isn’t available.
Other expenses to claim as a Police Officer:
- Uniform washing
- Using your own car for work purposes – not for normal commuting.
Remember!
The Tax Office want to give you this money back – it’s already yours! But they can’t unless you make an official claim.
