Can I claim tax relief for laundering my Police uniform?

Members of the Police Force can claim tax relief on the laundering and maintaining of their uniform. HMRC have agreed that all plain clothed police officers, Police dog handlers and PSCO’s can also claim a tax rebate for washing their own clothing.

What am I claiming?

Police officers up to and including the rank of Chief Inspector, can claim what is called a flat rate expense deduction.

How much can I claim?

Currently the amount agreed with HMRC is £140 per tax year, and you don’t need to provide receipts. A claim can be backdated for the last four tax years. At the end of a claim you should get a new tax code meaning you will pay less tax in the future, giving you a continued saving.

What else can I claim for?

At the same time as making a police uniform claim you can get tax relief on Police Federation fees, and business mileage if you use your own car for work purposes. As part of our service we can help you reclaim everything you are entitled to.
